BTS Members – A message about our Soldiers
Hey BTS Members, below is a message from BTS Chapter Director, LInda Manza, about a recent guest speaker at their September meeting, Gordon Huie. Here is Linda’s message:
“Gordon is a survivor of Tower 1 World Trade Center and his sister was killed in Tower 2. As we all know, events of 9/11 motivated many people to join the Army and Gordon was looking to get involved to help the troops in whatever way he could when he came across this program. Gordon also served in the military.
Gordon informed us at our meeting that the suicide rate for the soldiers is very high. Thirty-two soldiers committed suicide in the last few months. The “LETTERS FROM HOME” really touch the soldiers that are stationed overseas. They enjoy getting cards, pictures from kids, thank you cards, Christmas cards, – sometimes receiving these letters helps to keep them grounded and “home” knowing that they are appreciated and that someone is thinking of them. Gordon could not express how much these letters are appreciated, especially because they take so little of our time.
Holiday time is especially difficult for the troops so there is a big campaign to get the letters going – there are over 7,000 troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
It would be great if all of the Blue Thong Societies across the country could send a package of letters to (even include some photos) by November 1st to make it to them by Thanksgiving!!”
